Root canal treatment, which is often called a root canal, is a type of endodontic treatment. Root canal therapy is often suggested when the tooth pulp and nerves become damaged or infected. This can happen if decay or an injury reaches past the outer enamel layer of the tooth. If left untreated, infection in the pulp can cause the tooth to die. If this occurs, tooth extraction would become necessary.

During root canal therapy, Dr. Azinge can remove the infected tissues from inside the tooth, clean the tooth, and fill it with medicated material. The tooth is then covered with a dental restoration (usually a dental crown) to restore the tooth to its natural shape and structure. Root canal therapy can usually be performed in one or two comfortable visits to our dental office.

Unfortunately, root canal treatment has a reputation for being painful. Dr. Azinge is very skilled at root canals, and it is a pleasant experience in our office, not one to be feared. In fact, many patients fall asleep. For more information about root canal treatment and to book a visit, please contact our office manager, Marcy, today.
