Several filling materials are currently available to repair cavities, including tooth-colored (composite) fillings and silver-colored (amalgam) fillings. Because many people prefer tooth-colored fillings and composites continue to improve, composite resin materials are increasingly used to fill teeth.
Crowns are also treatments used to repair severely damaged teeth. Crowns are available in gold or other precious metals, porcelain, or stainless steel (usually used on baby teeth). Dental fillings and crowns, in general, do not last a lifetime.
